Colorado Beach party at 11,000 feet.

Last Saturday I had no wedding to shoot, so I wanted to really take advantage of any free time I can get before I get slammed this wedding season. I just happened to be invited to a Beach Party at A-Basin, my FAVORITE place to ski in CO, and it’s also where I will be working next season amongst all of it’s visual snowy, rocky, grandeur.

It was a beautiful morning at the beach!

Jamie, the man behind this party, started it the right way with breakfast burritos…

and BEER. PBR - that was my contribution. It’s a Summit County favorite. It is probably not an Orange County favorite. :)

My friend Steve and Cara brought their K-9, Tucker. He’s a real animal, so is his dog. Hardy harr harr!

Meet Paige. Paige is Cara’s younger sister. Interesteding connection here. Steve is married to Cara. I went to high school with them. I went to Homecoming dance with Cara. Steve is incredibly jealous, even though he’s married to her. I have known paige since she was a little bicycle riding kid. I have a very fond memory of Paige flipping me off (not to mention with a very threatening look on her face) as she was riding her bike while I was driving down her street. Such a little angel.

Meet Jamie, the host of this event. It was sort of a costume party, but it was so dang cold that no one really busted out the costumes in full effect. He was dressed as Sean White, the flying tomato.

And here he is busting through the snow on North Glade. I sort of wish I had my Canon EOS 1D Mark II for the action shots, but the G7 did what it could, bless it’s little heart.

Here’s Jenny and Cara. Boy am I glad that they can sit in the trunk of a car together, knowing that Cara and I went to homecoming dance together. They are even smiling, pretending that everything is “cool” between them.

Steve gets big air, crossed up and facing uphill. Steve is not the type to approach any hit with any sort of hesitation.

The landing (to the left) was not as smooth, but landings don’t really count.

Gary boy even made an appearance, but he’s naughty and runs to chase things so we had to keep him tied up most of the time. NO, that is NOT a muzzle. It’s a gentile leader, just to keep him from tugging on the leash. Loves people and dogs.

Steve brought cigars! I don’t smoke, but I do love a good stogie. Thanks brah! Photo of me, by Jenny. :)

Jenny prefers a good cigar over Tiffany’s jewelry.

Here, Jamie violently force feeds me a brat.

I pulled out my costume for approximately 10 minutes. Yes, I am ICEMAN.

“Iceman: You two really are cowboys.
Maverick: What’s your problem, Kazanski?
Iceman: You’re everyone’s problem. That’s because every time you go up in the air, you’re unsafe. I don’t like you because you’re dangerous.
Maverick: That’s right! Ice… man. I am dangerous. ” ~~TOPGUN

This may seem irrelevan, but it’s not. After our day skiing, we headed out to the Dillon Dam Brewery and it was splurge day. So I splurged. HOT BROWNIE SUNDAE!!!! Mmmmmmm

You just gotta love a day like that. :)

I love the top gun look. You should sport that more often!

Hehe, great stuff. You should tell Steve, “Takeoffs are optional, but landings are mandatory.”

What is it with ski folk and dogs named “Tucker”? 2 of my race coaches back home in VT each had a dog named Tucker, and so does one of the patrol trainers out here.

[...] I have a real phobia of dogs, so last weekend I decided I would go to the Furry Scurry at Wash Park and face my fears. It worked. I now adore our K-9 community. Just kidding, if anyone knows me, they know that I LOVE dogs. Most of them, at least. The Furry Scurry is a 2 mile fun run at Wash Park, where G, Jenny, and I jog often. I also love riding around that park on my fixie. We met friends Steve, Cara, and Tucker. You might recognize them from this earlier post. [...]
