Let it RIDE.

Today is “bike to work day”! So is tomorrow.

I decided that I want to pretend that I don’t have a car. So I have been riding everywhere, night or day, rain, sun, or gnarly thunderstorm. To the studio, the post office, the grocery store, wherever. No matter where I go, I get there in the best mood ever. I have been so much happier since I decided to pretend I have no car. I drive to weddings but I actually rode to meet a couple for engagement photos not long ago.

Its been the greatest thing. The obvious: fresh air, a daily adventure, excersize, no traffic, no parking issues. I am so happy, no matter where I am going. Oh and guess when I last filled up my gas tank? I have NO idea! It’s been at least 3-4 weeks. My car doesn’t move for days and days. I have probably only driven somewhere like 4 times in the past 3 weeks. I hear all the hype about the gas prices, but I stand pretty much unaffected, which is so great.

I also make a point to ride through the nice neighborhoods in Denver. I love to marvel at the multi-million dollar homes. Even though I don’t really care to live in a mansion that I could get lost in, it’s exciting to think of where I might be, 10 years down the road. It’s been an inspiring, daily meditation.

I rode home from a Nuggets game a while ago at 1:30 AM, and a week ago at 9:30 PM in a RAGING thunderstorm. It was such a trip, and when I got home, it felt so great to take a hot shower, throw on some dry clothes and relax in front of the TV. I really felt like I earned it.

And a special thanks to CHROME for keeping my 17″ Macbook Pro dry. Their bags are so bomber, waterproof, and comfortable.

Anyway, I’m not trying to brag or anything. But I would be really excited to hear if I can inspire anyone out there to clean off your bikes, fill up your tires and hit the road. It will do you WONDERS. I promise. :)

Here’s a clip of a recent ride to the post office (actually I forget where I was going, I must have been near DU because you can see the athletic building ahead. Sorry about the annoying “turn the camera around and say something senseless”. I have no idea why I feel compelled to do that. I love that you can hear the birds chirping!

    Hey Markie-
Now that I am a mom, and I am your sister too… I must say that it is TOO dangerous to be filming and riding at the same time. Also, in a thunderstorm. Not safe. Remember when you got hit by a car? BE CAREFUL!
