New Wheels: Sporty German, or Classic Italian?

I’ve decided that it’s about time to get some new wheels. My current ride is nice, but I’m getting bored with it…. and I have saved so much money on gas savings ever since I decided to “pretend that I don’t own a car”, that I’d like to think that this is payng for itself.

My current bike, a Giant Bowery was really intended to reintroduce myself to fixed-gear riding. Now that I feel fine on the fixie, I am ready to graduate to the ranks of the classic steel-framed single-speed. I know all my peeps are just as excited about this as I am. Thanks for pretending. :)

So I have narrowed my search to two real gems of a fixie.

The one on the left is only sold in Germany. I don’t think there are any US dealers. I love the steel frame, the straight handlebars, and the straight fork. I also love knowing that I would be one of a lucky few in the US riding around on it. Oh and they make these spikey looking bar plugs called “car scratchers”, and even though I am not the type who would intentionally ride up against a car to scratch it, they do look pretty cool.

On the right, the Bianchi Pista. It’s a classic Italian bike company and you know a Bianchi anywhere by it’s trademark moss-ish green color. Well I am Italian, so that makes a lot of sense to ride an Italian bike. But I have seen these bikes parked everywhere in Denver and Boulder. If I go with this, I’d go with those straight bars.

So, what do you think? I know you must have a strong opinion about this. Its a very big decision for me!

The car scratcher. I am gonna be BAD with these. Bad, meaning, cool-bad… you know? Oh come on, you know I am not going to actually scratch cars with these.

    Markey Mark,
you got to go with German Engineering, although your car is made in MEXICO and you could go with Bianchi made in TAIWAN, but you got to keep it real… GO GERMAN !!!
    peace out
