Heaven on Earth - 14,000 feet

It’s time! I have to make this post a quick one because it’s 10 PM and in two hours, Terence will be here to pick me up for our annual backpacking trip. It’s the busy season for me, and I always say, a trip like this couldn’t come at a better time. The only sucky thing about it is that I have to say goodbye to Jenny, no phone calls or love texties for three days. :( She worries that I am falling off cliffs. Don’t worry Jenny!

We’re off to climb Mount Shavano, via the Angel of Shavano, elevation 14,229, and this year we’re actually going to try to bag one more 14′er via ridgewalk to Tabeguache Peak (pronounced “tab-eh-wash”), 14,155 feet.

Here’s a photo of the Angel of Shavano, a snowfield on the East face. I think it kind of looks like Mr. Hanky though. Hawwwwwdeh Hoooooo! (I sure hope Mother Nature has a sense of humor!!!) Consequently this peak is very close to South Park, Colorado!

OK I will post more when I get back AND shots from my wedding last weekend at Keystone Ranch. I’ll be back late Thursday.

Some shots from my previous two trips with T.

Last season, Snowmass Mountain. We ran into this guy, Snake, who happened to be climbing his last of all of Colorado’s spectacular 14,000 peaks. A HUGE ACCOMPLISHMENT and I was proud to be there to capture it. Since this trip, we are still friends with Snake and meet up with he and his wife for dinner! I want to climb with Snake again, he is so cool. (his real name is Jake)

OK, my turn

OK, T’s turn. I met Terence in 1996 when we were both rookie whitewater raft guides on the Arkansas River. We have been on about a gazillion trips in the wilderness, including the Pikes Peak Ascent and Pikes Peak Marathon. Several 14ers.

This was from the previous year, Mt. Sneffels (sniff sniff). It’s a good climb up a sketchy steep scree face.

last year again, Terence full stride after just 3 or so hours of backpacking.

Terence, previous year, to Sneffels. We got hit by crazy thunderstorms the entire way to our camp, and the entire evening.

Previous Year. I brought my OEC books, studying to get my medical certification for my first season of Ski Patrol. I had a lot of time to study because of the thunderstorms.
