Dawn & Damien, USAFA

Here are some photos from a recent wedding, Dawn and Damien

Here’s Dawn the bride. I came out the day before the wedding to cover their rehearsal dinner. Dawn is one of the most laid back, easy going brides I have ever worked with. And nice to photograph too!

The rehearsal dinner was at The Place in Colorado Springs. A very cool place! It was really nice and the waitstaff, chef and everyone there were so amazing and hospitable. The chef even hooked me up with a plate as I was leaving and holy cow, amazing food.

One thing that Colorado Springs has always had going for it is spectacular mountains (surrounded by Pike’s Peak!) with equally amazing sunsets! I also like birds. Therefore I love this shot.

One of my packages come with Rehearsal Dinner coverage. I think this is such a great time for candid photography; I love watching people laughing and having a genuinely great time.

Here’s the Best Man… and my brother-in-law, Eric Martino! This is how he looks when he’s sad.

Did I mention how Colorado Springs has awesome sunsets? OK, I am trying to be a more generous photographer these days and share my little tips and secrets. Most non-pro’s (and probably a lot of pro’s, too) don’t realize that you get your best colors in a sunset by UNDERexposing your shot. I intentionally underexposed this shot by over 2 stops. I learned this on my own in Hawaii when I was still shooting film. I was bracketing a sunset and didn’t have the luxury to see my images until the prints came back from the lab. Try it, most point and shoots even have an exposure compensation setting. Knock it down!

Nice to see a Priest crack a cold one!

Next day… This wedding was at the United States Air Force Academy, which I know very well. I used to enter this base every day, as I went to Air Academy High School. Yes, I used to fly jets when I was 16. Go AAHS, GIVE EM THE BEAK!!! (ahem… sorry)

Wedding day… I see a lot of this when I first arrive to weddings.

Detail shot - this couple really played off of a French theme.

There’s that creepy fella with the camera. Who let him into the women’s changing room!

Meet the groom…

I had to make sure I didn’t go nuts and take tons of photos of my sister and Eric, because I WAS hired to photograph this wedding… but I did get a few. They were both in the wedding party. I really enjoyed watching these two dancing with each other later that night. They act like best buddies after who knows how many years of marriage…7? Kat and Eric!qw3y4147.jpg

The bride and groom are like best buddies too. Love this shot.

It’s not every day that you see such a decorated military man… carrying a bouquet of flowers! Looks good though. Awesome light!
