The sun shines just a little brigher in…
IOWA!!!
I have never been to Iowa. I’m here for an exotic destination wedding in Carroll, Iowa, population 10,106. On our drive in from the airport in Omaha, we started to get hungry and asked for directions to a good place to eat. We found some locals.
“Well, if ya git on this road here and head out that-a-way, you’ll just want to get onto the 71 at the bucket-uh-worms”.
Apparently, the bucket uh worms is what we call in Denver, the Mousetrap. We ended up at “The Pub”. I had chicken (FITDAY!), but oh man would I have loved to have tried their chicken fried steak! Speaking of FITDAY, I managed to find a medical center that had a work out area for rehab patients. I got a great weights workout there this AM for five bucks!
Today was real relaxed. Jamie, the groom in tomorrow’s wedding went to the same high school with me and his fiance is from this tiny town in Iowa. The reception will be held at “Randy’s Diesel Repair”, Staci’s dad’s shop. I can not wait. I have never shot a wedding like this. I think there’s something really fun about shooting a wedding in Iowa in a small town. This place reminds me of John Cougar Mellencamp, and “Field of Dreams”. It’s got character, and that, I like.
The bride is BEAUTIFUL and Jamie’s not a bad lookin guy himself. So it’s going to be fun.
Here are some shots tooling around town.
There are a lot of these. We’re in corn town USA. I saw a guy eat what looked to be be most awesome piece of corn on the cob today for “dinner” (what we call, lunch - Supper is Dinner).

I have been hanging out with Cara and Steve, two friends who are actually in this wedding. Cara’s family is from a nearby town, and drove up today to check it out. I tagged along. Here’s the street where Cara’s grandma lived.

We were standing outside of the house in this teeny neighborhood and this old lady invited us in to Cara’s grandma’s old house. This lady knew of all of Cara’s relatives and everyone in town, basically. She told us about everyone who has either died or had a stroke, or something. ha! Ever see the Saturday Night Live with the Debbie Downer skit?
This lady was really sweet and she loved telling us stories.

We saw one of the two churches in the town, real old.

Here’s the fine dining place. We weren’t allowed in because we didn’t make a reservations, nor did we meet the dress code requirements. So we ate at a place called CHEETAH’s. Some random guy who knew Cara’s Grandfather bought our “Dinner” (lunch). He was a real “good-ol-boy”.

Finally, here is a photo that will truly convey what Iowa is all about. All right, I’m off to shoot a rehearsal dinner. More later!
