Today: Ideal!
I decided last night that today, Tuesday, September 18, 2007, would be an ideal day.
“What does that MEAN, Mark”? You ask.
It means I will:
* Wake up at 5:30 AM, grab Gary, and drive out to Boulder. Specifically to the trailhead at Mt. Sanitas, my favorite running trail. I will run a steady pace, gaining 1500 vertical feet of elevation. At the summit, with a good sweat going, I will enjoy the view and serve Gary some water from the water bottle. I’ll enjoy the cool air and the warm morning sun on my face. (CHECK!)
* 9:00 AM, back in Denver, I’ll have a nice breakfast, egg whites and potatoes with a cup of hot coffee with Jenny. (CHECK!)
* 10:00 AM, I will pack my mess bag with my laptop, external hard drive, and noise reducing headphones and jump on my precious Gios for a ride out to the Cherry Creek Starbucks, where I will take care of any email I need to respond to. (CHECK!)
* 11:30, I will ride into Downtown Denver to Common Ground cafe, my favorite coffee shop ever, and find a quiet corner to set up shop. I like working at Common Ground because my computer doesn’t pick up their WiFi, so I get a lot of good, solid work done, without the distraction of email contantly trickling into my inbox.
* 3:30, back on the bike and off to my Denver Studio on Broadway, where I will print out all packing slips and ship all shipments that need to go out, check my mail, respond to email that came in for the day.
* 6:30 on the bike once again, time to head home! I’ll stop at Wash Park and ride two laps at a moderate pace, people/dog watching and enjoying the evening colors.
* 8:00 - back with my family, Jenny and Gary! I’ll pour a Chopin Martini (my daily vice) with jalepeno stuffed olives and a couple cocktail onions, and cook up a healthy dinner. Maybe watch The Biggest Loser, while doing a little more editing work or whatever.
* 11:30 - off to bed, gotta wake up at 5:30 again for another meeting with Mt. Sanitas.
This has been my ideal routine lately. It has been going quite swimmingly and my days have been productive, with lots of great riding and healthy eating! I’m at Starbucks right now, in fact, just about to cruise into downtown Denver!
Here’s some news that probably no one cares about, but I will write about it anyway! With 3.5 weeks to go, I have lost 25 lbs and have just 5 to go before I reach my goal. It dawned on me that there is no way I’m not going to hit my ideal weight of 185! So I jumped the gun and got my reward. It’s not the carbon-fiber Pinarello though. Yesterday as I rode in the chilly AM rain, I realized that winter is among us and I need a better fix gear single speed for the winter. My bike advisor, Cory Grunkemeyer advised me to go with the Surly Cross Check cross-bike for my winter commuting. So I took his advice and ordered the frameset in Mystic Mountain Grey! I CAN NOT WAIT! I am going to miss riding my Gios, but I will die on that thing in the city snow and crud this winter. I don’t want to die.
Cross Check: (congratulations in advance, self! You have earned it!)

On a related note, I will be selling my Atomic Snoop Daddy’s which I got last season and skied only about 10 days on them. They are a powerful, aggressive ski for those who like steep, fast, freeskiing and don’t like making turns. They are too long for me and I just have way too many pairs of skis. They are for expert skiers only. This is a LOT of ski. I’m selling them for $600. Brand new, they go for $700-800. L: 174 - doesn’t seem very long, but these are FATn non-twin-tip skis, too. They are already drilled for NAXO AT’s (which is a perfect setup for this ski). I’ll be skiing my Rossi Brigades all winter, I have a feeling!

Sounds like a good day. Mine’s all corporate and possibly mildly depressing. Today’s outdoor activity was standing on the light-rail platform waiting for the train behind me, because I got on the wrong one - only because the one I was supposed to get on didn’t arrive at all!
