Dallas: 50th Birthday Bash with Robert Earl Keen!
Following my Portland wedding, it was off to Dallas, Texas to photograph a 50th Birthday Party for Sherry! I have never met Sherry, but she was referred to me from event planner extraordinaire, VICTORIA CANADA! I love working with Victoria and she always hooks up crazy details that are great fun to photograph. Thanks so much VC.

This very well could have been the birthday of the year in Dallas - Robert Earl Keen is a famous country western singer and he’s got a cult-like following in Texas. Before we get to that stuff, we’ll rewind to my arrival at Hotel ZaZa in Dallas.
This is one of the first sights I had on a non-splurge day. Are those stacks of DONIES?!?!? Oh man I was dreuling! I could eat every one of those tasty critters (I’m going to use country lingo since this is my Dallas post!).

The plan was to take some photos there at ZaZa, but Sherry wasn’t ready yet, so no problem, I enjoyed a delicious salmon dinner at the restaurant. It was wonderful.
After my chow, I headed out to Seven Senses, where the party was held. Check out this birthday cake!

Being a non-splurge day, this party was torture. Luckily the next day I was out on the Jersey Shore, enjoying some clam chowder at Wendy’s rehearsal dinner (photos coming SOON!). But look at this!

and THIS! A river of Wasabi peas!

AND THIS!!! Real live chef’s cooking this and that!

Finally the guests starting to arrive, including the birthday girl herself, Sherry, and her husband who made the whole party happen!

are those tiny women or a really large couch?

They had some people hand-rolling cigars. Very cool!

Sherry’s son is actually a country western singer himself and sang a few ditty’s before Robert Earl Keen hit the stage. He was quite good!

And before you know it, ROBERT EARL KEEN! (I heard one guy exclaim, “Holy dang, we’re like 7 feet away from ROBERT EARL KEEN!”)

Is it just me, or does he sort of resemble “The Dude”?

Here are some more photos of REK

Towards the end of the night, Sherry had her fortune told. I didn’t hear her fortune, but it must have been good

Anyway, HAPPY BIRTHDAY Sherry! Thanks for flying ol me out to Dallas to cover your awesome event! It was so great to meet you!
