Enough about ME… seriously! “Three-4-one”
Today I actually got sick of myself. Sometimes I can get really self-absorbed and I catch myself just talking about myself all the time. I’m willing to admit it. It’s not something I am proud of. I guess that happens just because, well I am glad to be alive and I love what I do, who I am, where I am going, etc…I’m really passionate about things. It’s all so exciting… but I also know it comes across as vanity, and I have declared that as my official downside. I am going to start making a real effort to show interest in others and try not to allow myself to get all “me me me”. Who wants to hang with someone who just talkes about himself, anyway.
So today I tried something on my drive out to Utah with Jenny. I just started asking her questions. Some of these were questions she asked me, but I made a point so ask her questions in return. You’d think that would be common sense. After thinking about it, it almost makes me feel like a real jerk, I learned so much more about Jenny, my very own girlfriend. I had no idea that if she could play any instrument, she would play a fiddle or the piano; she has an interest in learning woodworking and oil painting; her favorite childhood cartoon: the Smurfs. These are all random things but once I started asking more questions, the more I realized that I have really done bad job of showing interest in others.
I just thought that a fun way of training myself to show more interest in others would be something I am going to call my three-for-one technique. Whenever I meet someone, a new person or old friend, I want to make sure I ask three genuine questions about him/her and pay one totally sincere compliment. Pretty sad that I have to plan this out, isn’t it? But it’s fun and I look forward to learning more about new people and old friends and family. And I really want to try to avoid allowing conversation of me or myself, or I.
Also I am going to feature a “peep-of-the-week” right here at sixpeeps.com. I want my peeps to get to know each other, you know? I often think about having a sixpeeps holiday party at the studio. Would be fun for some of my peeps to meet each other.
Well tomorrow we are off for our second segment of the trip to Idaho. I’m looking forward to hangin with my sister, Gina, Nick, Jay and Luke! I’m going to get all three-4-one on them, but I’m going to try not to be obvious about it. Doesn’t it suck that I have to challenge myself to do this? Shame on me, but I’m excited to improve myself in this fashion.
TTFN, peeps! You all look really great!

My favorite line from a movie is…”so, enough about me, let’s talk about you…what do you think about me?”
Great post…3-4-1…great idea. But now I am onto you:-).
