Happy Death Day! April 02, 2050
I just logged into www.deathclock.com to get my death date.
2050, not bad, but on a Saturday? Dang it my spurge day is on a Sunday. I decided that I am going to stick to my routine till the very end and not cheat on my diet, even though I will go just one day before what would have been my last splurge day. I think most would be like, “well since I am going to die, I better have my splurge day on Friday instead that week. Not me, I feel that I have enough self control to stay on my diet.
But you better believe I am going to splurge like mad the Sunday before!
Actually today I did think about death and dying (is this a morbid blog post or what!), but now wait a second, I think it’s good to remind yourself that our life here is a GIFT and any of us could go into the history books at any given moment! How does that make you feel? I think if the thought of this totally freaks you out, then you actually need to think about it MORE. Why???
Well because the more humble you become, I think the more you will really try to take advantage of really making the best of your life! Of course I don’t want to die early. I am having way too much fun here on earth. I’m healthy, I get to ride my bike to work EVERY day, even in the snow! (I tested out my studded-tire, snow bike yesterday on the snow-packed Denver roads and wow, it’s AMAZING! I even had a nice ride in the dark last night from downtown to Jenny’s place!), I have lived in a tent, spent a summer guiding river trips through the rapids of the Arkansas River, climbed about 15 of Colorado’s 14,000 foot peaks, ran a marathon, worked as a ski patroller for two seasons, lived in an A-frame, not enough international traveling, but I hope that will change… and some other stuff. I feel like I have had a really great life. And now I have an amazing girlfriend and the best dog in the world, Gary! Oh and I photograph fun and happy weddings for a living which is my dream career.
I am not done living yet, but I feel really satisfied with what I’ve done so far. I want to continue on, reduce my personal workload by streamlining my processes and workflow, so that I can raise a family, have kids, and just keep on “doing things”.
I was reminiscing the other day about my backpacking trips and how it’s such a trip when you are suddenly deep into the woods, far far away from the news, cell phones, cars and traffic, media, buildings… and even other people! All you see for days is nature as God originally indended, and all you can smell are pine trees and fresh air, and all you can hear are birds, wildlife (preferably at a distance), creeks and rivers, etc. It’s amazing and if you have never been out on a backpacking trip, I highly recommend it. It’s crazy to think that you are just out there living among other real live, breathing wildlife, it’s freaky, but good freaky. And the way the thunder rolls throughout the high country is freaky magestic. I love it. I’m so glad that I have made that an annual tradition.
Terence took this shot as I enjoyed looking far out from Snowmass Mountain, and not a single sign of man-made things.
I like this one of T (Terence is the guy I go on these excursions with each year), as we make distance in the early AM.
You can practically feel the cool morning dew in the air, awesome!
Well this has been a really random post. I just felt like jibba-jabba’ing. Thanks for reading if you made it this far.
