Week 1, 2008

Check me out, I’m blogging almost daily. I figured even if I just take 5 minutes to write down some thoughts I should do that. Why not.

So here are my thoughts today: Bored with my recent routine, I have changed up my Wednesday and weekend workout to SPICE IT UP!

Old routine:
M - Lift, upper body, 45-55 minutes
T - Run, 45m-1hr
W - Run, 45m-1hr
R - Run, 45m-1hr
F - Lift, upper body, 45-55 minutes
Sat - Run 45m - 1hr.
Sun - S P L U R G E ! ! !

NEW Spiced up routine:
M - Lift, upper body, 45-55 minutes
T - Run, 45m-1hr
Wed - Run HARD for 20 minutes, then do my new P90X
abs/core workout
R - Run - 45 m - 1hr
Fri - Lift, upper body, 45-55 minutes
Sat - S P L U R G E ! ! ! unless I am shooting a wedding, then I splurge on Sun.
Sunday - Incline Club run, 2-4 hours of running. Ouch!

That P90X abs and core workouts are really good I was walking around yesterday like an old man, it made me so sore!

Splurge day is not changing. I will continue my weekly tradition of totally pigging out. It’s fun for the first half of the day. The second half of the day it’s more like, “OK if I eat this plate of Lasagna, will I be able to hold it in???”
IF YES = EAT;
IF NO = WAIT A BIT AND THEN EAT

I hope to continue to lose more weight until I get to 175, even though this weekend I saw an old friend who hasn’t seen me in about 9 months. He thought I was dying because my face is so much skinnier now. When I assured him that, well, we are ALL sort of dying, but I am not “DYING”, dying, he was suddenly intrigued and wanted to hear all about my working out and eating healthy. Anyway, once I hit 175 my face will probably be SUPER skinny, but then I will start eating 3000 calories a day (good calories) and 180g protein each day until I get back to 185. By then I should look less skinny and more athletic. Here’s my goal:

Those are my thoughts for today. Check back tomorrow for more profound thinking by Mark Cafiero.

OK it’s tomorrow now (I started this post yesterday, didn’t publish it for some reason so now it’s today and I have more to type.

Today: This morning was rough. I was on my AM jog. Gary was being a pain, yanking his leash over and over again, trying to chase squirrels. I was envious of all the people jogging without dogs attached. They seemed to be having such good jogs. I couldn’t pay attention to my audio book because of it, even though it’s the exact same audio book I had been listening to since November 5, exactly 3 months ago. So I switched to “Mother” by Danzig and just let it loop on that song for the rest of my 55 minute run. It helped. Then Gary pooped for a second time and I only brought one bag. I had to kick his poop off the trail to an isolated spot where I then packed snow on top of it. GRRRR

I think I was also stressed because I managed to get behind on a few clients work and my new automated workflow is “paused” because more than half of my essential team are still on holiday break. So this beautiful Saturday afternoon I had a lot of work ahead of me. Then I got in my car to go home. Gary jumped in with his muddy feet. There was nothing I could do about it. My car was thrashed from the holidays and driving through snow and slush and crud. I dropped off Gary and headed straight to the drive in carwash. HUGE LINE. Of course. So I hung a u-ey and b-lined it to the self-serve car wash. Something great happened. I started vacuuming the car, and got back in to do the wash… I suddenly felt a little better! I was waiting for one car in front of me to finish her wash. An old beat up 80’s Escort station wagon. This lady was washing it with such attention to detail even though it was littered with rust and dents. But I didn’t care! A sweet Rover pulled up next to my car. I admired it. Even took a photo of it. This is a really bad photo via stupid iPhone. As you can see I wasn’t trying too hard on composition. I won’t win any awards with this one! But it makes me feel good, I was starting to have a much better day. I was feeling relaxed. It was great.

Then as I was washing my car and this car wash plays music. Margaritaville was playing. I could have been in Hawaii for all I knew! I was so chilled out, I took my time washing my car. I made a promise to myself, that no matter what, I will never go to the auto-car wash again. Washing yourself is the way to go. I want to remember how I felt and try to stay in that vacation mindset even when I am not on vacation. I think I can do it and still run a great business.

Finally, to end my post, I was later at the grocery store and took a photo of this thing that reminded me of one of my very first blog posts from May, 2002 on my friend Dan’s blog. I was a guest blogger for him. NOW keep in mind this was written back when I was just 25, and I was sort of a fool.

So: May 5, 2002, on my friend Dan’s blog:
“Yesterday I had another one of those moments, where I start observing about something and wondering about it… Anyway, I was at King Soop’s where I noticed one of those little horsie rides. This little girl walked up to it, dropped a penny into the thing and jumped on for a wild ride. Two thoughts came to mind:

1. I would like to design one of those machines that looks innocent and takes a penny, but to the rider’s surprise bucks like a rodeo machine at one of those cowboy bars. And the only thing different about the appearance of it is a little strap with instructions: Please insert hand under strap and drop a penny into the machine. It would go up and down, kind of slow at first and around in circles and just get faster and faster….

In my opinion, we would have a lot of tougher kids if we could put my machines in every grocery store in the country.

2. I have always wanted to make a movement to try to get the government to abandon the penny from the US currency… Well, if my machine makes it into grocery stores… nevermind. I want the penny.”

So there you have it, some random thoughts from two different days in one fun-filled post; a few crappy photos from my silly iPhone, and a vintage masterpiece. I’d say this makes for a GREAT blog post. ttfm

(no that’s not a typo. ttfm: ta-ta-for-meow… really, I meant to type it that way).
