Non-Wedding Photojournalism, my future in weddings
There’s one more image I’m entering into the WPPI print competition under “non-wedding photojournalism”. Any of my older peeps may remember this one.
I’m hoping to start doing more non-wedding photojournalism soon. I believe that documentary work is a passion of mine that I have NOT truly tapped into.
2008 is looking busy for weddings, but for 2009 I will be getting far more selective and will be shooting far less weddings. I plan on really training my new photographers well and spending a lot of time with them this year. Also I have some other businesses that are launching right now that I am really excited about.
I initially was planning on retiring from wedding photography in 2009, making 2008 (this year) my last year shooting weddings. But I can’t do that. I love shooting weddings too much, it’s exactly the kind of work that I love… but I will be much more choosy for 2009, shooting only weddings that are totally interesting, non-traditional, and for clients that I feel I really click with. If I only shoot 5-10 weddings in 2009 myself that are super cool, I will be happy with that. So far all of my weddings for 2008 are amazing and I still turn down a few here and there when I feel it could be a bad match. But really I want to make more room for other passions that I have identified this past year. So I’m excited!

I am so sad to see you want to retire from shooting weddings, but I feel so lucky that you were able to shoot our wedding. I love checking into your blog and reading all your antics and seeing your great photos. Whatever you will be shooting will be great! Maybe later this year or next we will have you do a family shoot with our new little one! Thanks for everything!
