If you don’t orchestrate it, you don’t OWN it. (and Switzerland III!)
“If you don’t orchestrate it, you don’t own it.”
Michael E. Gerber, E Myth Revisited
I remember a few weeks ago I was at the gym, and while most people are rockin out to thrasher music, nothing gets me more PUMPED to PUMP UP, than… audiobooks!
I was pumping iron to E Myth Revisited and Michael E. Gerber was speaking of the importance of “orchestration”. Man, I have fallen in love with that word. It means so much and in Vegas, if you ever go see Cirque du Soleil, you will see first hand what orchestration is all about.
I decided right there that my life and business needs “orchestration”. And I want to be the composer! I realized that I have too many “blind spots” in my life and business… things that I am not controlling, but which I SHOULD. The reason I haven’t been is because I haven’t faced them. OK I know this sounds vague.
Anyway, one thing I had been doing for about a month was making graphs. I have been graphing my times for certain runs: Wash Park (1 lap) / (2 laps); Green Mountain; Mt. Sanitas. Well a couple weeks ago I set a new record on my Wash Park 1 lap. I credit that so much to my graphs because it gives me a visual image of what’s going on! It’s the most motivating thing in the world to me and I totally look forward to plotting my most recent results.
I decided that I should not ignore my infatuation with graphing. So yesterday I bought some real graph books, a ruler and colored pens. I spent about an hour graphing: Forecasting, Budgeting, Profit/Expense reports, Personal Spending… and I am so excited. I have never felt like I have EVER had this much control over my life. I love it. So if you want to reach your goals, GRAPH IT BABY! Orchestrate your life! If you can’t orchestrate it, you don’t own it.

(see that little red “X mark’s the spot” on the lower right corner? That’s my goal! And the x axis, the horizontal line (x, right? any mathematicians out there?) represents the amount of TIME that I hope it will take to get to the X.
It’s like a treasure map!
OK now for more Switzerland photos. Again, I want to save some for my show at the studio so just a few per day.
My 2nd day in Switz, I just wanted to eat chocolate and walk around the town of Luzern. I did just that and I have never felt so relaxed, this day was like pure therapy and boy did I need it.
I happened upon a garden. It was cold and rainy. I photographed all day. My hands eventually got too cold that I couldn’t spin the aperture wheel on the back of my camera with my thumb. I had to point my index finger and it and make circles. It was so funny, I was having such a great time.
On my way back to town (and to buy more chocolate bars), I saw these three cool shutters, mounted onto a very cool looking wall.

All for today folks, story time is over. Have a great Friday!
Here’s a shot of the hood that I lived in. I highlighted the apartment I found on www.couchsurfing.com.
