Cherry Creek Sneak - update
OK so last week I posted my results from the 2007 Cherry Creek Sneak. Last year, I ran it in 55 minutes, averaging an awful 11 minute mile. Here it is officially:

YESTERDAY: I ran the 2008 Cherry Creek Sneak after 8 months of a committed routine of eating well, exercising daily (except for SPLURGE DAY - every Sunday), after 30 lbs of fat lost… My goal was to run an 8 minute mile for the entire duration of the 5 mile course.
Here are my official 2008 results: I KILLED it, with a personal best time of 35:43!!!!

So here are the improvements that I am pumped about:
1. TIME: from 55 minute overall to 35. I cut my time by 20 minutes, and was 5 minutes faster than my goal of 40 minutes.
2. PACE: Went from an 11 minute-mile pace to a 7 minute-mile pace
3. PLACE: 2007 was 2877 overall. 2008 I came in 203rd place, among 3801 runners; and 31st place among 225 in my age/gender division.
It was a ton of fun and a beautiful day. It was definitely a highlight of 2008 for me. Even back in my Pike’s Peak Marathon days, I wasn’t able to hold a 7 minute mile for 5 miles on flat land. So that really meant a lot, and it felt like I have officially taken control of my health, and most of all, after years of trial-and-error, I have FINALLY figured out how to stick to a committed daily routine. That’s proven to be the secret behind everything.
On top of that, my weekend was also splendid because I got to have some great time with my fiance’, Jenny whose face was great to see around that final corner before the finish line! We went to Lucille’s and met with my friends Terence and Jonny-A for beignets, mimosas, and greasy cheesy breakfast scrambles. Jenny and I rode our bikes home, a little tipsy from breakfast, and had a great nap when we got back.
Then I got a surprise voicemail from Author Timothy Ferris of the 4-Hour Workweek, who was calling me from his cell phone in Fisherman’s Wharf in San Francisco. That was a fun surprise, too.
The rest of the day was filled with lots of eating. I also got to see my mom and Steve for a quick “Happy Mother’s Day”, since Jenny and I will be on a plane to Italy on May 11.
I hope everyone else had a killer weekend. Thanks for letting me toot my own horn a little this morning. It was another great victory!

Thanks Gina, well I guess I need to shave off another 20 minutes and run it in 15 minutes. Haha actually next year I’d love to be able to shave off another minute off my mile pace and run it in 30:00.

Mark- I think you should train for a marathon (a flat one–how ’bout Nashville?) with the intention of qualifying for Boston. The qualifying time is 3:10, and that is 7:15 min mile. What do you think? Boston 2010!

I like that idea Kathy. I doubt I could hold that pace for 26 miles though, but maybe next year - so yeah Boston 2010. I’d have to totally change my workout routine for that! But regardless I would be up for running a flat marathon in Nashville, that sounds fun!

Kelsey - Yeah that book has really changed the way I pursue life. I highly recommend pairing it with the very conservative approach to wealth, “Millionaire Next Door”. My friend and I have recently talked about writing our own book that encompasses much of the 4-hour workweek mentality, but more focused on the Minimalist Lifestyle. I’ll let you know when it hits the shelves.
DONNA - keep it up. 7 day’s is a good start. Remember that it takes 12 weeks of a committed routine for it to become an official lifestyle change. That’s what I learned. Another valuable lesson is that you have to let your inner “dude” (or “dudette”) out of his or her cage, one full day each week. Ever see The Big Lebowski? He’s the Dude I speak of. If you don’t let him/her out, you will not make it very far. That’s my own opinion. Keep up the good work, Donna! Stick with it! Committ!
