Sorry for the SPAM!

Looks like cialis and other companies really love sixpeeps. Please ignore the spam comments. And if anyone else knows how to block it, let me know!

When I started getting a lot of spam on my site without any hits showing up in my tracking software, I scrathed my head. Then I learned that most spammers don’t even visit your site. They find blog posts with Google and then just hit the comment API.

The easiest way to deal with it is to have “captcha” enabled. That’s those little boxes with random letters that you have to type before you can submit an entry. It is an extra step to comment, yes, but I haven’t gotten spammed once since I enabled it.

I don’t know what blogging software you are using, but most of the big ones have the ability to enable “captcha.” Hope that helps! :)

Same thing is happening on my site, every once in a while I’ll get all excited and say “Sweet a new comment” then all it says is “Click Here” or something. The “Captcha” thing is a good idea, however some people’s blogs have them and they are really hard to read sometimes. But if you are getting a lot of spam, then it is probably your best bet.

I just require users to ‘preview’ their comment before it gets posted, and this seems to work for me. I don’t know if you can do something like that. It looks like you are using WordPress, if so, you might want to check out the following article: http://codex.wordpress.org/Combating_Comment_Spam
