The most conceited photographer in the WORLD?

Well, I know of a lot of photographers who are full of themselves. I may be one, but usually I try to be quiet about it.

When I first started speaking at the WPPI and was getting featured in books and magazines I just wanted EVERYONE to know about it. I felt like one of those “ROCKSTAR” wedding photographers.

Well the past few years I have not let things really go to my head and I no longer care about being some sort of hot shot that all my competitors are so impressed with, yada yada yada. I have sort of been under the radar screen lately.

But once I was at a workshop and my instructor and now friend, Becker asked the class, “Who is your FAVORITE photographer”???

Immediately in my head, I thought, “I AM!”. But I didn’t want to say that. When I was asked to publicly say who my fav wedding photographer is, I lied and said, “Marcus Bell” (who IS a great photographer). Turned out Becker’s entire point is that if you are not your own favorite photographer, then you are doing something wrong!

So anyway, that was a fun workshop. That week I met two people who have become great friends. Becker himself and also my other really great friend Jim Kennedy (and his wife! Stephanie!)

But anyway, I have just sort of been “doing my job” as a wedding photographer, being very busy, yada yada yada.

The other day I added a photo to my web site:

Today I just went basically to make sure it uploaded to the slideshow properly. Then I got distracted. I continued to look at my very own web site! Man it must have been 8 months since I have looked at it, I’m not kidding! I realized that since hiring editors to do so much of my post-wedding work, I have not spent much time looking at my own work. I go, shoot, and forget. That’s sad.

Anyway, this might sound pretty conceited to you but if you want to know who my favorite photographer is, one who I am inspired by? And if I could have anyone in the world shoot my very own wedding (should that ever happen!)… I am happy to say that that photographer is ME!

So here’s to a little celebration of self! I hope everyone else out there feels comfortable to be the “president of their own fan club”** every once in a while.
